As asphalt pavement ages, cracks may begin to appear. Cracks develop for a variety of reasons – among the most common are thermal stresses, fatigue and reflective cracking from underlying pavement conditions. Crack seal is a routine pavement maintenance service to prevent water from entering into the aggregate base and subgrade material below the pavement.
Mr. B's Sealcoating LLC recommends that cracks with a surface opening of 1/4 inch or more be sealed. This process begins with a thorough cleaning of all sand, dirt, debris and all non-compressible materials. From there, crack sealant is applied as hot-poured. Hot-poured sealant is heated in an on-site melting pot and applied to the cracks via a walk-behind melter. The crack sealant must be banded or spread on the pavement next to the crack and cover a width of 3/4 to 1 inch on both sides of the crack. The sealant will leave a permanent solid black line where it is installed.

Crack filling is an important asphalt maintenance service that helps prevent water from entering the pavement base and causing larger problems over time. Below are common questions about when cracks should be filled, how hot-poured crack sealant works, and why proper preparation matters.
Asphalt crack filling is a pavement maintenance service that seals open cracks to help block water from reaching the aggregate base and subgrade below the pavement. When water enters cracks, it can weaken the pavement structure, expand during freeze-thaw cycles, and lead to larger cracks, potholes, and surface deterioration.
Mr. B's Sealcoating LLC generally recommends sealing cracks with a surface opening of 1/4 inch or more. Addressing cracks early helps slow pavement damage and supports a longer maintenance plan before more expensive repairs become necessary.
Cracks can form because of thermal stress, pavement fatigue, age, weather exposure, traffic load, settling, and reflective cracking from underlying pavement conditions. As asphalt expands and contracts through changing temperatures, weak areas can open up and allow moisture to enter.
Crack filling targets open cracks in the pavement, while sealcoating protects the asphalt surface as a whole. Crack filling should usually be completed before sealcoating so the cracks are sealed first and the final sealcoat can provide a cleaner, more uniform protective finish.
Crack cleaning is essential because sand, dirt, weeds, loose asphalt, debris, and non-compressible material can interfere with adhesion. A clean crack allows the hot-poured sealant to bond more effectively and helps create a better seal against water intrusion.
Hot-poured crack sealant is commonly used for asphalt crack filling. The sealant is heated in an on-site melting pot and applied to the prepared cracks using professional equipment. This material is designed to create a flexible seal that helps protect the pavement as temperatures change.
Yes. Crack sealant typically leaves a solid black line where it is installed. This is normal and expected. The sealant may be banded or spread slightly onto the pavement beside the crack to help create a proper seal and protect the surrounding area.
Crack filling helps reduce water intrusion and slow further pavement deterioration, but it does not make aging pavement permanent or stop all future movement. Asphalt expands, contracts, and wears over time. Routine maintenance helps manage cracking and extend pavement life.
Yes. Crack filling is one of the most practical ways to maintain asphalt before small problems grow into larger repairs. By sealing cracks early, property owners can help reduce moisture damage, protect the pavement base, improve appearance, and support a longer pavement maintenance cycle.

There were vandalism incidents, and our driveway was stained from the vandalism damage and from the cleaning solutions. We wanted our driveway to be sealcoated before further damage from winter weather. Brandon was quick to respond to my call and got us on the schedule for the next available appointment window. He arrived on time and worked hard and efficiently. Affordable pricing and a job well done. Thank you!

Excellent company. Brandon stuck to his word and texted me the week he was going to be ready to seal coat! Came at a great time. Did quality work and the seal he uses is very quality! My OCD saw one little tiny spot... So I reached out because he told me if anything bothers me. Just reach out to him and he came back and fixed what I wanted with no questions asked. Very straightforward person and I appreciate that.

Mr. B’s sealcoating did an excellent job with our driveway. Very meticulous and even trimmed the grass along our driveway so that no grass would get any of the sealcoating on it. It’s very smooth and we do not see any streaks or lines. Would definitely recommend them to anyone! I only wish he offered a discount for multi home because organizing 7 houses was a lot of work on my part, but will still use him next time!

Our family had Mr. B's Sealcoating complete two seperate projects for two of our driveways. We noticed that even after two years, the product he put down still looked as good as the day it was done. We had several cracks in our driveway and he used a hot filler that instantly got hard and created a flat surface. I would highly recommend using Mr. B's Sealcoating for your next asphalt repair project and I will continue to use him for years to come.
